ngSysLog - Netgear SysLog Database Logger / Web Viewer
======================================================

Author : Rich Burnham
Date : August 2005
Web : http://CodeBeetle.Com

Description:
-----------
ngSysLog is an application that is installed as a windows
service. This service will receive Syslog messages from any
netgear router that is capable/configured to send syslog
messages.

The service listens on UDP port 514 for these messages and
once a packet has been received it saves it in a MS Access
(mdb) database, called nglog.mdb. The time/date is also saved
to the database.

This database can be accessed using the built in webserver
that the service creates. Through this server you can view,
filter, export tsv or delete stored messages. The webserver
can be secured using basic authentication if required.

System Requirements:
-------------------
Operating System : Windows XP/2003
RAM : 5Mb
HardDisk : 1Mb
Router : Netgear Router
ODBC : v3.5

Installation/Configuration:
--------------------------
Run ngSysLog_Installer.msi and it will guide you through
the installation.

During installation, you will be presented with the configuration
dialog. Here you can specify where you require the database
to be stored; the port that you want the webserver to listen on;
and whether you want the webserver to be username/password
protected.

Usage:
-----
As ngSysLog is a windows service it will automatically run on
system boot.
To access the database throught the webserver use an internet
browser such as IE or Firefox. Point the URL to:-
http://nameofthecomputer:port where nameofthecomputer is the
name of the pc running the service. And port is the port that
you set in the configuration settings.
IMPORTANT:
Make sure you configure your router to enable syslog messages
and make sure they are sent to the correct address.

Uninstalling:
------------
Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> ngSysLog
